North Reading Community Chorale is pleased to announce the addition of Johnny Nichols Jr. as our new Choral Director. The energy and skill Johnny has brought to us has already added a fabulous level of enthusiasm to our rehearsals.
Johnny Nichols, Jr., native of Natchitoches, Louisiana, holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Music Performance and a Master of Music Degree in Choral Conducting. He received his vocal, instrumental, conducting, and pedagogy training under the direction of world renowned musicians such as Dr. Byron Jones, Dr. Daniel Abraham, Louis Nabors, Dr. Claire Vangelisti, Dr. Deborah Chandler, and Jason Oby. Other notable names of personal instruction include Dr. Andre Thomas, Dr. Jeffery Ames, and Gwyneth Walker.
In addition to his role as Choral Director, Johnny teaches theater and music for Randolph Public Schools, Randolph, MA and is the Director of Choral Ministries at First Congregational Church, in Norwood, MA.
Johnny has been sought after as a sectional director for high school honor choirs and a private vocal teacher for high schools in select Texas and Louisiana public and private schools including Houston’s High School for Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA). He has served in many churches as music director where he has lead and taught adult and youth choirs and director of their instrumental programs.
North Reading Community Chorale is looking for more singers for this season’s upcoming performance, Spring-Sing, to be held on Saturday, May 21 @ 7:30 pm and Sunday May 22 @ 4:00 pm. We rehearse on Mondays 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm so we have about 10 or so rehearsals left.
Some of the pieces we will be performing are Paul Basler’s Alleluia, Being Alive, from Company, arr. Mac Huff, Blackbird, by Lennon & McCartney, arr. Brymer, If Music Be the Food of Love, I’m Gonna Sing ‘Til The Spirit Moves My Heart, by Moses Hogan, Seasons of Love from Rent, arr. Emerson, Shenandoah arr. Erb, plus others.
We welcome all voices but we would love to have a few more male voices to balance the sound. We offer practice CDs and/or dropbox links to .mp3s to help you learn the notes.
In the past, high school students have earned their community service hours serving with us, as we are a not-for-profit which raises funds for scholarships. See if your school will allow you to sign with us and help us out with our performances.
Please feel free to come to our next Monday rehearsal at 235 Park St, North Reading MA 01864, the hall at Aldersgate UMC.
